“Inverse Problems in Acoustics” – new section in Acta Acustica

We are pleased to share the launch of a new section in Acta Acustica called “Inverse Problems in Acoustics”. Dr. Thierry Scotti, Laboratoire de Mécanique et d’Acoustique, Marseille, who you may recognise as Acta Acustica’s Editorial Assistant, will manage the new section as its Associate Editor. The new section will further broaden the scope of Acta Acustica and will sit alongside other sections such as Computational and Numerical Acoustics, Musical Acoustics, Aeroacoustics, Speech, Ultrasonics and so on.

The new section deals with “the study of linear and non-linear inverse problems related to the localisation of sources/targets or the identification of the characteristics (material and/or geometric) of a complex medium (NDT/SHM) from measurements of vibratory/acoustic wave fields, in the time (full wave) or frequency domains.” This field tends to cover all aspects related to, for example, “cost function and minimization/optimization schemes with (or without) penalty terms, concepts of model mismatch, a-priori information and ill-posed nature (in nonlinear: existence, uniqueness, stability), parameters identification, qualitative/quantitative imaging of complex media by linearization/approximation of propagation models.”

Acta Acustica is the journal of the European Acoustics Association (EAA) and reports on original scientific research in acoustics and on engineering applications. Articles are open access and can cover all subjects in the field of acoustics, so the new section on “Inverse Problems in Acoustics” is a welcome addition to the journal. Dr. Scotti is already welcoming submissions for the section and looks forward to further contributions.
