Round trip times (RTT) and jitter of different network technologies. From the last-mile technologies, fibre optic internet (FO) performed best, followed by Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), cable internet (CI) and 4G Long Term Evolution (4G LTE). Peer-to-peer mode is not possible with 4G LTE. With local Gigabit Ethernet, minimum RTT of 0.1 ms and jitter of 0.2 ms can be reached (lower part). Delay performance of Wi-Fi depends on the distance. An increase of distance from approximately 4–20 m considerably increased the jitter.
