New Editor in Chief for Acta Acustica
- Published on 16 March 2020
The Board of the EAA is glad to announce the nomination of a new Editor in Chief our Journal “Acta Acustica” by May 1st : Univ.-Prof. Dr. techn. Dr. h.c. Manfred Kaltenbacher.
Manfred is presently an associate editor of AA, he possesses a good knowledge of acoustics and acousticians and has been recently elected President of the Austrian Acoustics Association. Manfred is Head of Technical Acoustics at the Institute of Mechanics and Mechatronics/E325-A3 at Vienna University of Technology, and is moving to the Graz University of Technology. He has accepted the challenge to make our new open access Journal a big success. Please help him in his mission!
He will be assisted by Dr. Jean Kergomard, the present EiC who will be acting for one year as “Past Editor in Chief”.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jean for all the effort he has put (and will continue) for 6 years to making our Journals internationally recognized!
Very early, he realized the transition of publication word to open access and dared conducting this transition (with the support of previous board) within the EAA which is now one of the first scientific associations proposing open access journal to its members.
Prof. Manell ZAKHARIA.
President of the European Acoustics Association.
An ‘open’ road for Acta Acustica, the journal of the European Acoustics Association
- Published on 04 February 2020
Last June, it gave us great pleasure to announce that EDP Sciences and the European Acoustics Association (EAA) had agreed to publish Acta Acustica (formerly Acta Acustica united with Acustica) in partnership from January 2020. At the time, we also announced that the journal would become fully gold open access from January 2020. Now, with the publication of its first editorial, and with four more articles accepted for publication, we are delighted to announce that Acta Acustica is live.
In his editorial, Professor Manell Zakharia, President of the EAA, expresses the desire “…to make Acta Acustica, a top scientific level Journal and transform the first full open access Acoustics Journal controlled by a non-profit association in a great success.” To support this aim, the EAA has established a financial support system for authors belonging to the EAA National Societies to support the cost of article processing charges (APCs) for EAA society members.
The current editorial board will remain in place, led by Professor Jean Kergomard, Editor-in-Chief and Director of Research at the Laboratoire de Mécanique et d’Acoustique, CNRS in Marseille, France.
“The launch of the new open access journal during the International Year of Sound is timely,” commented Anne Ruimy, Senior Publishing Editor. “Acta Acustica is sure to create a ‘buzz’ in the acoustics community!”
Acta Acustica reports on original scientific research in acoustics and on engineering applications covering all subjects in the field of acoustics. Visit the Acta Acustica website to find out more about the journal, to read the instructions for authors or submit a paper and to sign-up for free e-mail alerts so that you never miss future articles.
Forthcoming articles include:
- Passive modelling of the electrodynamic loudspeaker: from the Thiele-Small model to nonlinear Port-Hamiltonian Systems
- Effect of phoneme variations on blind reverberation time estimation
- Correction of the Doppler distortion generated by a vibrating baffled piston

Open Access Acoustics Journal to be published by EDP Sciences
- Published on 06 June 2019
Paris, France 5 June 2019. EDP Sciences (EDPS) and the European Acoustics Association (EAA) are delighted to announce their partnership to publish Acta Acustica united with Acustica (AAuA) from January 2020. The partners are also pleased to announce that from this date there will be two additional major changes to the journal:
- The journal will become a fully gold open access journal ensuring the highest possible accessibility to quality research in the field of acoustics.
- The journal’s name will change (a further announcement will be made later this year).
The EAA’s journal (currently AAuA), is an international, peer-reviewed journal publishing original scientific research on all subjects in the field of acoustics and on engineering applications. The editor-in-chief is Professor Jean Kergomard, the Director of Research at the Laboratoire de Mécanique et d’Acoustique, CNRS. The journal includes scientific papers, technical and applied papers, book reviews, short communications, doctoral thesis abstracts.and on occasion, special issues and review articles are published.
“The journal will become one of the first in the field of acoustics to be fully open access”, said Jorge Patrico, EAA President. “The growing demand for open access from both the scholarly community and the research funding bodies in light of Plan S, makes this the right time to make this change. We are extremely pleased to partner with EDP Sciences and excited about the opportunities to come with reinforcing the journal’s position as a leading voice in the field of acoustics”.
Claus Roll, Publishing Editor at EDPS, said, “At EDP Sciences we have a commitment to open access and we are greatly looking forward to a partnership with EAA and with their journal. It’s a privilege to work with such an esteemed organization as EAA in order to help their journal grow for its future in open access by providing acousticians with a global platform for sharing their work beyond the reach of the traditional research community, and supporting the open scholarship agenda.”
The journal will publish articles under a CC-BY license, enabling authors to be fully compliant with any open access requirements of funding organizations to which they apply. Members of EAA will receive a discount on the article processing charge, and acousticians of all countries are welcome to publish their results supported by granted projects in the journal.
The European Acoustics Association (EAA) is a non-profit entity established in 1992 that includes in its membership societies predominantly in European countries interested in promoting the development and progress of acoustics in its different aspects, its technologies and applications. The EAA gathers 33 acoustics societies and serves more than 9000 individual members all over Europe. The European Acoustics Association (EAA) is an Affiliate Member of the International Commission for Acoustics (ICA) and of Initiative of Science in Europe, ISE.
